Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery reduces the size of excessively large breasts. Large, heavy breasts are uncomfortable, painful, embarrassing, and affect a woman's appearance and self-image. Patients often complain of back and neck pain, grooving of the shoulders from bra straps, and limitation of activity, as well as frequently having to forego athletic and social events. Reducing the breasts to a normal size can significantly alleviate most of these problems. Asymmetrical breasts can also be corrected with this operation.
Your operation is performed in a hospital
operating room under general anesthesia
and takes from two to three hours. Using an incision around
the nipple and another vertical incision from the nipple down
to the breast fold, I remove the excess tissue, elevate the
nipple to its proper position, and mold and contour the breast
into a pleasing shape.
I keep my patients in the hospital
overnight and in most cases they go home the following day.
There is minimal discomfort, and no complicated post-operative
aftercare. Return to sedentary work
can be anticipated five to seven days after surgery, but two
to three weeks should be allowed for more active situations.
