Eyelid Surgery
Those tired, droopy eyes looking back at
you from the mirror in the morning can be caused by excess
skin and fat in the eyelids. Anxiety and depression can often
produce the same effect, but barring those factors, eyelid
surgery may be able to give you a more energetic, youthful
appearance. Sometimes, the upper lid skin excess is so severe
that it impairs vision. If this is documented by your ophthalmologist
with a visual field examination, some insurance
companies may pay for part of your operation.
I perform the procedure under local
anesthesia and it takes from one to one and one half hours.
Excess skin and fat are removed, restoring a wide awake appearance
to your eyes. For the upper lids, I remove an ellipse of skin
and muscle so that the final suture line lies in a normal
skin wrinkle. In the lower lids, the incision is made just
below the lashes and continues out to the lateral corner of
the eye. After removing the fat bags, I redrape the skin and
remove the excess. You can go home the same day and I ask
you to return to my office in three to five days to have your
sutures removed. There is only minimal
discomfort, and a moderate amount of swelling and discoloration
which usually abates in five to seven days.
If you would like more information about this operation, please call our office (502-216-3700) of email me at info@drkavka.com and we will send you an informative brochure.
